Bruce McGregor, City Director
During school days at Wheaton College, Bruce worked as director of Young Life in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. In 1983, Bruce moved to the inner city of Kansas City and began working with an urban ministry. That job led to a teaching position with De La Salle High School, an alternative school for urban youth. From 1986 to 1997, he worked with a suburban church as a teacher and pastor. As a pastor, Bruce led numerous mission trips. During this period, Bruce earned his Master of Divinity degree and Doctorate of Ministry which focused on leadership development. Bruce founded Freedom Fire in 1997. Since that time the ministry has expanded and includes two sister oganizations, Freedom Works (focused on holistic care), and Shalom Retreat Center (120 acre retreat facility Near Mound City, KS). In 2009, Bruce helped start Freedom Covenant Church.
Kevin Cacy, Community Ministries Director
Kevin first became involved in urban ministry in 1985 when he joined the Gospel All Stars Community Outreach. He worked with children and families in midtown Kansas City, Missouri, for the next two years. While returning to school and completing a degree in architecture, he and his wife Rebecca continued to stay involved in the inner city. This included having children from the city live with them. While working as an architect, specializing in low-income housing, Kevin actively served on the board of Are You Committed, a mentoring and job training program for inner city youth. Kevin joined Freedom Fire Ministries in April 1999. He serves at Community Ministries Director, and oversees all our daily programs involving the children, and our volunteer activities as well.
Melvin Cole, Co-Pastor
Melvin Cole has been serving in Urban Ministry for 20 years. He has served as a Youth Pastor in a local Church. He was part of a National Ministry called Young Life from 2000-2005. He joined Freedom Fire in 2006, where he serves over the Teen Ministry and Co-Pastor at Freedom Covenant. Melvin has received training through the Berean Bible School (Global Institute), Young Life Leadership Training, Devos Urban leadership, and currently The Urban Ministry Institute. He lives in Kansas City with his wife, Marie. They have two grown children and one granddaughter.
William Palmer, Ministry Assistant
Will joined the staff as a part-time employee in 2001. He grew up in the urban core and knows the pressures and needs of the community well. Previously, he worked for The Sky’s the Limit camp and a local retirement home. His variety of skills and servant’s heart has helped strengthen the ministry of Freedom Fire.
Beverly Cole, Ministry Assistant
Beverly Cole was born and raised right here in Kansas City, graduating from Westport. From a family of 10 kids, she is the sister of Pastor Melvin Cole, also on staff at Freedom Fire. Beverly is acquainted with the struggles of many of our people, having battled addiction herself as a younger woman. She successfully went through the Teen Challenge program in Minnesota and has been free since 2000! With her background, Beverly brings a wisdom and keen insight, coupled with compassion for those going through similar struggles she has faced. Beverly helps to lead our women’s ministries, and leads team serving breakfast each Sunday morning to our homeless friends.
Willy Robinson, Property Manager and Head of Security
Some of our staff first met Willie in 1983 when we were involved with another urban ministry called Gospel All Stars. He has been a part of our lives ever since. He’s been on our staff for the last three years and helps out in numerous ways. His primary responsibilities are overseeing the property and being the head of security.

Jared Orr, Friday Night Site Coordinator –Wayne Miner
Jared started serving with Freedom Fire in 2013. He fell in love with the ministry the very first time he visited the Garrison Square Friday night outreach. Several months later, Jared filled the need for a Friday night leader at Wayne Miner community center. Jared graduated from UMKC with a bachelors in mechanical engineering, and he currently works as a consultant with Burns & McDonnell. But his ultimate passion is for showing the world what an awesome God we serve…and watching the love of Jesus transform lives in the process.
Allie Cacy, Friday Night Site Coordinator – Guinotte
Allie grew up in Kansas City in a large family and began volunteering as a tutor at age 11. After graduation from high school she attended the University of Missouri – Kansas City and studied psychology. Each summer she has served as a counselor at Camp Shalom, and has always enjoyed time with the kids from the urban community. Strong leadership gifts and cheerful heart make her an ideal leader for a Friday Night Outreach. We love having Allie on our staff, and the kids love her too!
Deborah White, Friday Night Site Coordinator
Deborah joined the staff in 2005. She has raised three godly children while living in the Federal Housing Developments. She first started as a volunteer at our Guinotte location, and then led that outreach for over 10 years. Currently she works part time leading various youth focus groups.
